Cats... and Demons?

Is there any research about cats (who are attached to a family) and demons?
could they be protectors to a slight extent? or do they run scared or chase the nothing around the room as some animals do?

I think animals are a lot more aware of certain things than people. Their hearing is so much better and they are quite frequently a wonderful judge of character. My cats usually react to the activity in my house, it's one of the things that lets me know that I'm not crazy (plus I'm not the only person that's experienced stuff here, my best friend and former lover refuses to stay the night at my house anymore after spending two very sleepless nights being tormented).
Oh, and you are very very wrong about the Egyptians entombing live cats with the Pharaohs. Yes, it was extremely common for mummified cats to be included in the tombs of the Pharaohs. There have also been HUGE cat tombs found that were filled with mummified cats (in one of these sites there were approx. 300,000 mummified cats found). It was illegal to kill a cat in ancient Egypt and the punishment for killing a cat was death, whether it was on purpose or a complete accident. Cats were treated as the living embodiment of the goddess Bastet and there were temples dedicated to Bastet where cats lived in total luxury. These temples are probably the only example of where humans killed cats purposely in those times. There is evidence that the temple workers would occasionally kill some of the cats, either to keep the population down or as offerings to the goddess. When a cat died and was mummified it's tomb was fixed with bowls of milk and mice and rats, to give the cat food for the afterlife, just as they did with people.
Ok, sorry this ended up *really* long, but for years I wanted to be an Egyptologist and absolutely devoured everything I could find on the subject of ancient Egypt. Hope it was at least interesting.

..But I do know there something about some cats. I never had a connection with a cat until I meet my husband and his cat. He knew, the cat knew things. I never noticed but he helped me out so much. I called him my watcher. I had less problems in my life spiritually. He stayed close to me for a couple of years but I couldn't have him around me all the time (I'm horribly allergic to cats *L*). He got really sick and I held him as he passed on, I miss him horribly.
I'll stop with the sad sob story. Seriously though it would be interesting if someone would take the time to look into the cat myth. I don't believe all cats would be capable of things, but I believe some can. It's easy to tell which ones, you can see it in them.

Its rather unnerving to wake up to a mouth full of teeth growling. She was protecting me from something...but what??? I tried to find what she could be so upset about but came up with nothing. The only thing I can think is she may have been sleeping beside me and had a nightmare. Did she see a spirit of some kind? I don't know....

Dogs are like… everyone on the planet loves me, wants to rub my belly and my ears, so they just can’t believe it when something *bad* shows up.

A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.

If it is very true, and widely believed that they can see paranormal activity that we can't, then why wouldn't they be brought into every seance to see their reactions? I dunno, just a thought.
Edit; For the most part, I think they are bitchy enough themselves to be able to connect with an unhappy spirit LoL

We have a cat that we were blessed with a little over ten years ago. It was always joked that she was my familiar because of my religious beliefs. However she is attached to my mother more. She took to our moved really well, with one exception. Apparently we have what my mother has gone to calling gremlins. In other words, there are times she will suddenly stop, look into the ceiling and then take off running like she's chasing something. (not running away) Around here we say the gremlins are playing tag with the cat again.
She has also made us aware of at least three family members soon to be death.
So yeah, they are sensitive.

I woke up normal. I was sittin there drinking my coffee and I heard what sounded like a very loud sick cat outside my door. I decided to leave the cat alone because I thought it might have rabies or something. I mean it sounded like a real cat in agony. Then about ten minutes later I steped into the bathroom to brush my teeth. I was very supprised to find cat like claw marks going across my chest on a diagonal and ending on the upper portion of my stomach.
