finally finished hostage to the devil, took me like 3 or 4 months! but i would read like 5 pages a day...great book by the way

now i am moving on to this book, so hopefully i can get through it a lot sooner and will let you know what I think! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

That's funny because someone told me recently I should have gone into greater detail with what Jack did there (not Joe). I responded: how disgusting did you want it? Some people love blood and guts horror, but for me that was jus an aside, and necessary to the story.

well up till then I had just read what he did to the young boy...I thank you for not too many details there. But then with the 6 hunters/indians....that was pretty gruesome.....ew!

truthful criticism: only thing a bit distracting is you come right out and say how the evil is there or just a few other little things like that...when you should let events lead up to you THINKING it without explicitly saying it.

but overall, so far it is pretty good and hard to put down. I think it flows together nicely too and is an easy read.

That is good criticism and I really tried not to do that--good writers never do that--but it turned out that the book was not written by good writers; so that's the way it is, to convey the desperation of several people trying to get a handle on the evil.

Does that seem like an excuse or a way to make the whole thing more realistic?

well since (so far) it seems like the book is written from the perspective of the characters and not an 'author' or 'narrator' then I guess it makes sense then. They are telling things from an insider's perspective and not an outsider's looking in- like a narrator would be.

Interesting review came in, this is from someone I never heard of who has I don't know hao many degrees in psychology, and an author of four or five books, who said: I was really scared, so the writing is affective. And then she explains she couldn't sleep with the book on the bedside table, and then it couldn't be near her cats, and then finally she placed the book next to the fireplace.

So I'm thinking it might actually fit the horror genre after all?

actually, i think my kids lost my book. I have not seen it in a few days.
(that's why I haven't had any more reviews as of late)
but I will be doing some heavy cleaning this weekend, so I am sure I will find it.
