I've heard it said that Dead Time is not a
seance
What do you think?

First things first.

Dead Time is a term used because all power that isn't needed to run their equipment in the house is turned off, partially because its believed entity's have easier time manifesting in darkness, partially because the power could trick some of the equipment i.e. EMF meters (Though I've rarely if ever seen them use it), or the thermal cam.

Its held at 3am because it is an hour that the paranormal is BELIEVED to be MORE active, thats not to say its only active at 3am its simply believed to be more active, and its the mockery of the hour Christ died.

Now a seance is when you are attempting to contact the dead, be it a lost one, or something else, you are not to say calling out to anything in the area, it is actually said that you are somehow opening a portal to the other side and calling for the loved one to come forward and speak. This can have negative results if you do not know what you're doing. Sometimes this is even done with some sort of chant before you start opening the portal.

What PRS is doing on TV during dead time is NOT a seance, they are not attempting to open a portal and talk to the dead. THey are calling out to anything that may be ALREADY in the area to try and communicate. Thus they are not opening portals, they are not chanting or doing some sort of ritual to kick off the session (enless you consider the white light thing a ritual), they are simply trying to see if there is something in the area and it can already communicate with them.

Uhm, need anyone say more?

I did have a question though. What paranormal group/investigator came up with dead time? Is it just PRS thing? Or did PRS just come up with the name?

Well depends on what you mean, the term? I've never heard it used before the show.

But as far as turning all the lights off, investigating at 3am, and holding an EVP session, I've done that before the show, and I'm sure many many other paranormal groups have as well.

I was asking about both the term and what is done. But you answered me questions! Gracias.

A seance is when you try to connect with a spirit on the spiritual plane, which means you aren't necessarily looking for someone who is attached to the building or land that the seance is taking place in.

Dead time is just sitting down and listening for activity that is supposedly already there. They aren't asking spirit guides to bring forth a spiritual being, they are listening for movement and voices that aren't their own or from someone who is living. They are basically doing what you would do right before you go to bed, which is being quite and being aware of your surroundings.

It has been said that most paranormal experiences occur at night because that is when you and your household are calm and quite, making the paranormal experience more pronounced. That is why dead time is what it is, a means of calming the house down of alive peoples actions and minds and listening for anything that is not normal.

That is my opinion, anyways.

I held a dead time session on Sunday, but since the spirits hadn't set their clocks ahead yet, I was an hour ahead of them and missed them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'll get them next week.

I always considered dead time, meaning the spooks come out, to be between 2 and 4ish am. with 3 am being the main time....

Did you mean Celestial?

If so the second link seems to be the most informative.

You know come to think of it, all of my experiences have been post-dead hours, like 5AM to 7AM. The dead definitely do not sleep.

sé·ance (sā'äns', -äɴs') Pronunciation Key
n.
A meeting of people to receive spiritualistic messages.
A meeting, session, or sitting, as of a learned or legislative body.

[French, a sitting, from Old French seoir, to sit, from Latin sedēre; see sed- in Indo-European roots.]

Word History: The origins of séance are surprisingly mundane, given the mysterious atmosphere associated with the word. It comes from French séance, "seat, session," from Old French seoir, "to sit."

So by definition " Dead Time " can be called a Seance

Thanks OpenSoul,

But my real question was does it fall under that catagorie "seance" wich the bible forbids and declare as a sin.

I don't think it falls under the category of seance. You are only attempting to communicate, understand, and observing something which is already there.
Dead time can also be sitting still listening, observing and communicating with nature. No different that sitting under a tree on a sunny day enjoying nature at it's finest.

Oddly enough as a geriatric and pallative care nurse for over 18 years. Dead time can take on a new meaning. If someone was going to pass away during your night shift, chances were it would be between 2:00 and 4:00am.

Hi Friends,

Dead time has all the earmarks of a seance, participants asks questions, and demand answers in order to help or get rid of malevolent souls. In this case

I thought it was about evil spirits using 3am to mock people. Like being woken up at exactly 3am night after night as if to say, "It's on!".

So why shouldn't PRS use the time as well? Brilliant idea IMO. Sort of turning the tables.

I'll be attending an event at Rolling Hills Sanatorium in a week and a half. 2 friends and I want to try to hold a dead time if we can slip away from the group and the leads. I know the place is active, last time I was there you could feel the electricity in the air and we encountered a shadow person just doing a quick walkthru before we left.
